“You take the high road…”

April in the Country is a road movie following a blind woman’s journey from London to Scotland’s Outer Hebrides after her father dies. Equipped with a smart phone, a white stick and a smile, April enjoys the sense of freedom travelling solo brings her. But when her support systems fail and grief catches up with her, April loses her bearings, and navigating the well-meaning but often misguided assistance of strangers nearly does her in. Finally arriving on Harris, however, she encounters her estranged godmother immersed in the island community and learns a new way to live and love.

April in the Country is a feature film in development by writer-director Michael Achtman in collaboration with actor Margo Cargill.
